Body of a newborn found in Ghaggar river in Panchkula, police begin probe

Panchkula, Aug 21 (UNI) Shock gripped Sector 21 of Panchkula after the body of a newborn baby was found in Ghaggar River near the Chhath Puja Ghat on Friday.

Local residents noticed the body floating in the river and moving towards the bank. They informed the police through dial 112.

On receiving the information, a police team led by Ramu Swami reached the spot. A forensic team was also called to examine the scene and collect evidence.

A preliminary assessment by the forensic team indicated that the body appeared to be that of a four to five-day-old baby.

Police took charge of the body and initiated further proceedings. Investigators are now trying to determine where the newborn’s body entered the river and who left it there.

The police are also gathering information from the surrounding area and examining available leads.
